1. Active and passive security

   • Internet has many risks so we must be carefull. To use a computer on a network we must:
     • know how to use it
     • know what security tools we can use
     • apply a set of basic security rules
   • Active security: we use this to refer to the actions aimed at protecting the computer and its content. Passive security: aims to minimise the impact of possible computer damage.

2. Security on the computer

   • Threats to the computer: malicious software
     • Malware is software developed from malicious purposes
     • Signs that your computer has been attacked: computer internet works slowly, unknown programs appear, keyboard and mouse do strange things...
   • Software to protect the computer
     • Antivirus:program that analyses the different units and devices and incoming and outgoing data flows, checking the code of the files
     • Firewall: device system that controls and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic
     • Proxy: software installed on a computer that functions as an entry port
     • Passwords: can help to protect the security of a file, folder or computer on
     • Cryptography: encrypting of information used to protect this files, communications and passwords
