QUESTIONNAIRES
is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent.
Issues
- Low response rate Inadequate length and time to complete the questionnaire. Use of an inappropriate sample group
Data analysis
- Answers or responses are coded (i.e. reduced to a number) by the researcher or those responsible for developing the questionnaire
- This allows the data from questionnaires to be gathered quickly and then presented in a form more useable for subsequent analysis
Uses
- Questionnaires can be used to collect quantitative and/or qualitative information. Questionnaires are commonly used in market research as well as in the social and health sciences
- a list of questions or items used to gather data from respondents about their attitudes, experiences, or opinions.
Types
- Multiple Choice Questions: They provide a series of predefined responses.
- Open ended questions: This type of question does not impose any of the restrictions of closed and multiple choice questions, but allows any answer that the respondent gives to the given question
- Closed questions: The most used form of closed question is the dichotomous one ("yes" or "no" answer).
Limitations
- they do have application and data-collection limitations, most of which are the product of poor design in the instrument.
- Leading questions, Complicated questions, Irritating questions, Ambiguous or unclear questions
