Bivariate statistical measures regression and correlation
Dispersion diagram:
limited measure
Regression
- Explains the behavior of a variable and predicts the value of one variable based on the given values of the other.
covariance
- measures changes with respect to the average level of each variable, tells us if the relationship between two variables is direct or inverse
multiple regression
- is an extension of linear regression and can be extended to use multiple independent variables
simple linear regression
- They are assumed to be a chance relationship of the variable X (cause) towards a variable Y (effects), Study the changes in a variable.
Pearson's coefficient
- normalizes the covariance with a measure of spread for X and Y, if the points have a tendency to line up
Correlation
- corresponds to the relationship between two variables or groups of techniques to measure the associations between 2 variables that are related a change in one is reflected in the other
