1. DOC

   • The Massachusetts DOC system is what runs and keeps everything within the prisons under control. They oversee the prison system and manage 14 institutions in the state of MA. They provide several things like resources to rehabilitate, care, protection, etc. to all inmates within their institutions. They also provide resources to inmate family or friends. For example, they provide ways to get in contact with them or send them money on their account. Overall, the DOC manages several resources and functions within prison systems.

2. Community Corrections

   • Community corrections offer several different alternatives for those who are incarcerated, were incarcerated before, on probation, etc. For example, they offer specific programs for those who have a high possibility of reincarceration and studies show that if they participate in such programs, they gain and learn several things and have a good chance of avoiding repeat involvement with criminal activities. They also provide all types of treatment and help like cognitive behavioral treatment and therapy, several different types of therapy, vocational training, and even life skills training/help and career development. 3. Juvenile Corrections

   • There are multiple juvenile detention facilities throughout Massachusetts. These facilities typically value resources and support, fairness, racial equity, and transparency. These factors are extremely important especially when it comes to juveniles. Some facilities are for certain age groups and some are for all girls or all boys, this way it is easier to maintain and give them the help and particular support they need. Within these facilities, children attend school, engage in all types of activities, and are motivated to get exercise daily. Although it may not seem like a lot, it creates healthy habits and steady routines for them to get used to instead of getting caught up in criminal activities and/or behaviors.
