ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR STRUCTURE
MOLECULE: collection of bonded atoms.
ATOM: basic particle of an element, made up of protons, neutrons and electrons.
- ELECTRON: negatively charged particle, orbit around the nucleus
- NEUTRON: particle without electric charge, present in the core.
- ELECTRON: negatively charged particle, orbit around the nucleus
LINK: force that holds atoms together in a molecule
LEWIS: model to represent the structure of molecules, use dots to show valence electrons.
PROUST: law of definite proportions, establishes that chemical compounds always contain the same proportion by mass.
OCTET: tendency of atom to complete their valence shell with eight electrons.
WAVELENGHT: distance between two successive crests of a wave.
RADIATION: emission of energy though waves or particles.
JOB FUNCTION: minimum energy necessary to release an electron from a material.
VALENCIA: ability of an atom to combine with other atoms.
QUANTUM NUMBER: set of four numbers that describe the position and energy of an electron in an atom.
ENERGY LEVEL: regions where electrons can move around a nucleus.
