TA2 HCI
Considerations
- A smaller screen means a more limited number of interaction and images
- More HCI's need more memory or RAM to operate and store more info.
- E.g smart tv 8gb vs Microwave 150mb
- The more processing power an HCI is allocated the more it can do
Purpose
- The purpose of an HCI is tio bridge the gap between the user and the computer. This can include interaction methods such as type, touch, gesture and voice control. This can be recorded by things like keyboards, sensors, cameras or microphones.
Features of a well designed HCI
- Clear in layout- important info stands out and user interactions are clear
- Be consistent in layout allowing users to easily find things.
- Be simple and easy to use allowing user to quickly learn operation of it.
- User controlled- they make the decisions, not the computer or HCI
- Provide feedback- when the user makes an error it provides clear details and steps to rectify it.
Applications
- Banking
- An HCI can be used to log in users on a virtual bank app through a mobile device or PC
- There has been a decline in physical banking stores and an increase on online banking usage, making a well designed HCI appropriate to be used by a growing number of customers.
- Entertainment
- A wide scope of applications within the gaming, on demand streaming and smart TV markets.
- Fitness
- A HCI| can be used in devices such as smartwatches to INTERACT WITH APPS AND ALLOW USERS TO TRACK AND RECORD THEIR PERSONAL HEALTH DATA.
- Home appliances
- HCI's can prove a useful tool in interactuing with home appliances. They are useful because they allow the user to do things such as electing different functions of the appliance and other things to customise it's operation.
- Embedded systems
- An HCI that is built in to a device or system.
- These are included to allow the user to select different functions of the appliance,
- Banking
Advantages
- Provides greater flexibility in use compared to older devices.
- Increased security
- Flexibility
- Easy to use by disabled persons (for things such as voice control)
Disadvantages
- If it fails, it could prevent users from acsessing important services such as banking apps
- If connectivity is lost, then the appliance will not work as required.
