Terminator
- The primary function of a terminator symbol is to clearly designate the beginning and end of a process.
- It's typically represented by an oval or rounded rectangle, which visually distinguishes it from other flowchart symbols.
- The symbol often contains the words "Start" or "End" to further clarify its purpose, although it can also depict a trigger action that starts the process.
- When used as a "Start" symbol, it typically has only one outgoing arrow indicating the direction of the process flow, while a "Stop" or "End" symbol has only incoming arrows.
Input/Output
- The parallelogram is the standard symbol used to represent input and output operations, signifying where data enters or exits a process
- These symbols clearly indicate where data is being received (input) or presented (output) within the algorithm or process.
Decision
- Decision points are represented by a diamond or rhombus shape.
- They represent a decision or a question that needs to be answered, leading to different paths in the process.
- Unlike other flowchart symbols that typically have one outgoing arrow, decision points have multiple arrows branching out, each representing a different possible outcome or path.
Process
- help to document the various steps taken during the execution stage of a project
- Typically the shape of a rectangle
