Item 2

  1. Prescribed Criteria

    • Your story must have at least 10 different variables in total
      • Variables need to be related to the story line.
      • You must have a variety of variables
      • Have a story
    • You must have at least two choices for each input. IE. Yes | No, Left | Right, Buy | Sell
      • Use multiple statements
      • Need to include an input
    • You must use a WHILE Loop
      • The use of a wire loop in the code
    • You must use variables that match your storyline
      • For each variable it has to include some thing related to the story line. (example: “Cat_Food” for choosing whether you want to give the cat food or not.
  2. Self Determined Criteria

    • Add weapons that are purchasable with Gold
      • Add mobs that the user can kill to earn gold
      • Add the currency gold
      • Add weapons
  3. Existing Text Based Adventure

    • Zork: The Great Underground Empire
      • Often considered the grandfather of the genre, Zork is a classic parser game where you explore the labyrinthine ruins of an underground empire, collect treasure, and avoid the dreaded "Grue".
        • Strengths
          • Features rich atmospheric writing, complex puzzles, and an advanced command parser that gives the illusion of infinite possibilities.
        • weaknesses
          • Its puzzle difficulty can be punishingly obscure, and trial-and-error gameplay can result in players getting stuck easily.
  4. Coding Constructs

    • Modularisation
      • Breaking a large program into smaller, reusable parts called functions or modules.
        • def calculate_damage(attack, defense): return attack - defense. final_damage = calculate_damage(10, 3)
    • Iteration
      • Repeating a block of code multiple times until a condition changes.
        • countdown = 3 while countdown > 0: print(countdown) countdown = countdown - 1
    • Sequence
      • \Executing instructions one after another in the exact order they are written.python
        • print("Step 1: Mix the ingredients.") print("Step 2: Bake in the oven.") print("Step 3: Serve the cake."
    • Assignment
      • Storing a value inside a variable so it can be used later.
        • player_gold = 50 player_name = "Alex"
    • IF statements
      • A specific type of selection construct that runs code only when a condition is met.
        • if health == 0: print("Game Over"
    • Selection and Condition
      • Making decisions in code by checking if a specific condition is true or false.
        • if score >= 100: print("Level Up!") else: print("Keep playing.")
    • FOR loops
      • A specific type of iteration that repeats a set number of times.
        • for i in range(5): print("Spawn enemy!")
  5. Ideas for Story

    • Fighting monsters game
      • The chracter might need to fight monsters to level up and become good at the game
    • Weapon upgrading
      • Could be a game that you could try to get a better weapon by clicking and getting money to upgrade
    • Saving the princess
      • The chracter might need to fight monsters to save the princess who is at the top of the castle
