Year 9- Digital Technologies

  1. Coding Constructs

    • IF and THEN Statement
      • Key pseudocode terms that activate a response when the condition is met.
        • Example: IF colour sensor detects the colour black THEN rotate 75 Degrees
    • WHILE Loop
      • A key pseudocode term that remains active whilst the condition remains met.
        • WHILE colour sensor is white: Start turning left 45 Degrees, display '0' image.
    • REPEAT UNTIL Loop
      • A key pseudocode term that repetitively activates a response until the condition is satisfied.
        • Example: REPEAT UNTIL touch sensor is pressed: Present :) image, activate '8-Bit' sound effect
    • GREATER/LESS THAN Statement
      • These are key pseudocode terms that activates a response when the condition of value/quantities remains met.
        • Example: IF distance sensor is LESS THAN 35 cm THEN: rotate 180 degrees, start moving forward for 35 cm.
    • Variables and values
      • General programming elements used in setting to shape overall function, provided with a quantity.
        • Example: DECLARE movement speed, SET movement speed to 25%
  2. Algorithm Constructs

    • Sequence
      • A component that refers to the orderly structure of instructions set
        • Example: When Program starts, (FOREVER) IF colour sensor detects black THEN: turn 85 degrees left ELSE: turn 85 degrees right
    • Assignment
      • A component that refers to the positioing of variable and their values
        • Example: DECLARE motor wheel size, SET motor wheel size to 17.5cm
    • Iteration
      • A component that mainly regards the repetition, or loop, of a certain response.
        • Example: (FOREVER) Rotate motor C left 90 Degrees, start moving forward 22 cm, rotate motor C left 90 degrees...
    • Selection/Condition
      • A component that regards the use of conditions and the following responses directed.
        • Example: IF distance sensor is GREATER THAN 50cm THEN: Activate 'Applause' sound effect ELSE: display :( image
  3. Spike Prime Robot

    • Colour Sensor
      • A sensor that notably detects the density of environmental colours
        • IF colour sensor detects green, rotate C motor right 60 Degrees
    • Distance Sensor
      • The Distance Sensor detects a certain distance from an obstruction
        • IF distance sensor is LESS THAN 35cm, start moving backwards display '>' image.
    • Touch Sensor
      • A sensor of the Spike Prime Robot that detects and applies force.
        • WHILE touch sensor is pressed, activate 'Cat meow' sound effect, reduce speed to 10%.
    • Motors
      • two motors of the robot mainly controlling movement.
        • (Activate C + D motor), rotate C motor left 110 Degrees, rotate D left 15 Degrees
  4. Planned Response

    • Rockfall Challenge
      • Navigate the robot by following the black line, ensuring that the "boulder" is forced aside to continue to the end
        • Establish the standard line following coding to navigate around the course and apply use of the touch sensor to push aside the obstruction
    • Poison Ivy Challenge
      • Direct the robot through the course's black line and program a response to travel around the "poison ivy" to reach the end
        • Position the line following coding to travel through the course and install the distance sensor with turning codes to travel around the obstruction
        • This is the selected challenge
  5. Task Requirements

    • Prescribed Criteria
      • Follow a safe path to the exit.
        • Apply line following coding
        • Implement proper turn coding.
        • Establish appropriate use of sensors
      • Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles.
        • Apply the appropriate, suitable use of sensors
        • Ensure that sensor coding is correctly viable and acceptable
        • Investigate if sensor responses align with coding
      • Use sensor(s) to avoid or manoeuvre any dangers or obstacles.
        • Ensure Spike Prime Robot is appropriately positioned with sensor function.
        • Trial what sensor coding fits with the conditions.
        • Ensure that sensor coding application is not 'overwhelmed' with others
      • Complete a room-specific challenges
        • Select and understand what the Spike Prime Robot challenge is.
        • Apply existing coding knowledge to navigate through course
        • Ensure implemented coding appears not over-complex
    • Self-Determined Criteria
      • Structurally organise coding to suit programming needs
        • Ensure coding includes standard, construct features
        • Properly position where each coding should be activated when
        • Do not overlap certain coding features with others to ensure efficient response
      • Ensure accounted sensors function properly
        • Inspect sensors are installed approrpiately
        • Observe how sensors operate
        • Does activity in sensors align with coding?
      • Apply additional coding effects to challenge
        • Install sound and light coding among the program
        • Ensure that added coding is not creating difficulty
        • Create a unique 'celebration' response at the end
