1. back-ups

   • *back-ups are copies of original data in case the originals are lost or damaged. *back-ups should be done regularly. *they are stored away from the originals off site

2. archives

   • *archives are the storage/moving of files that are no longer in current use but are kept for future reference. *its done to free up space and speed up access time on the hard drive

3. encryption

   • *encryption is the scrambling of data to make it unreadable. *its used to protect files from unauthorised access. *it can be used for online use it can be used for email etc.

4. physical security

   • *physical security is a tried and trusted method for protecting hardware and software from unauthorised access and potential theft.
     • e.g. CCTV (closed-circuit television)
     • Biometrics is where people can scan a certain part of there body so no one but them could gain access
     • guards are people who watch for suspicious behaviour
     • locks is a devise used to look a door and can only be opened with a key
