Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets

1. Benefits

   • When data changes, formulas automatically recalculate
   • Charts and Graphs can be produced and customized very easily
   • Computers do not make mathematical errors like humans, but GIGO (garbage in, garbage out!) Still applies
   • You can change information in a spread sheet model to make and test predictions (What If investigations)

2. Formulas

   • Formulas are automatic calculations
   • Commonly used formula; =A1+B1, this adds up cells A1 and B1. =A3*B3, The asterisk sign multiplies A3 by B3
   • To use 'sum' you need to enter the equals sign first. Then type in your equation

3. Formatting

   • Formatting is the design of there spread sheet, this includes borders and Background fill for cells
   • Cells can be merged or combined together, eg. cells A1:C1 can be merged to make a big cell A1
