Kelley's Covariation Model
- Kelley's theory of causal attribution in which people assign the cause of behaviour to the factor that covaries most closely with the behaviour
- People assess three classes of information
- 1. Consistency information - information about the extent to which a behaviour 'Y' always co-occurs with a stimulus 'X'.
- Someone always does something in response to another
- 2. Distinctiveness information - information about whether a persons reaction occurs only with one stimulus, or is a common reaction to many stimuli.
- Someone always does something in response to everything
- 3. Consensus information - information about the extent to which other people react in the same way to a stimulus 'X'.
- Someone always does something, and no one else does
