Computer Security
Preventative
- Access rights
- Only allow users to access what is necessary for them
- Firewall
- To avoid hackers entering your system via your network
- Physical Security
- SADFLAB
- Serial numbers (keep all serial numbers)
- Alarms (such as burglar alarms)
- Doors (ensure they are locked)
- Fire protection (using CO2 or another gas because fire will be electrical)
- Avoid putting computers on ground floor
- Blinds (make sure they are closed)
- SADFLAB
- Passwords
- To avoid anyone entering the network without permission
- Encryption
- So any data stolen cannot be read without a decryption code
- Acceptable use policies
- So people know what the are allowed to do on the network
- Access rights
Corrective
- Backup and restore procedures
- So if data is lost, it can easily be restored
- Redundant hardware
- Have spare hardware so if something breaks it can easily be fixed or replaced
- Disaster recovery procedures
- Should a disaster occur and affect the network, then a procedure needs to be set in place for a quick recovery of the system
- Backup and restore procedures
Detective
- Virus checking software
- Have software constantly checking for any viruses
- Firewall software
- To avoid hackers entering your system via your network
- Fire alarms
- So fires can be detected sooner
- Audit trails
- So administrators can trace what users have been up to
