1. Clin. issues & Dx

   • Many exhibit decreased susceptibility to antifungal agents
   • In tissue, appear as hyaline (nonpigmented), septate, branching, filamentous
   • Lab dx: culture is important
   • Affects neutropenic patients

2. General characteristics

   • Mycoses due to other hyaline molds (hyalohyphomycetes)
   • relatively uncommon but increasing in incidence
   • spread through spore inhalation or progression from previous localised cutaneous lesions
   • Important etiological agents
     • Fusarium spp.
     • Scedosporium spp.
     • Acremonium spp.
     • Paecilomyces spp.

3. Treatment

   • Vary depending on species
     • Voriconazole - drug of choice
     • Some cases - surgical
