Free Will and Evil
  1. Christians say God gave humanity 'free will'
    1. meaning that we have the ability and right to choose
    2. If God had not given free will....
      1. people would have no choice but to believe/follow him
        1. This is not true freedom
          1. God did not make people as robots, they can choose to believe in him.
            1. They can choose what is right or not
        2. Christians do not believe evil is the result of God.
          1. evil is the result of the choices humans make
            1. for god to intervene it would mean:
              1. taking away our free will
                1. imposing his will
              2. Christian responses:
                1. God knows the answer but humans don't understand
                  1. jesus showed mankind that God wants them to fight against evil and suffering
                    1. so they follow eg. of Jesus
                      1. pray for those who suffer
                        1. offer practical help
                        2. Life is a test for people to prepare their souls for heaven
                          1. if there was no evil/suffering people would not be able to develop as good people
                          2. must respond to suffering by trying to help others who suffer.
