Resumen del Recurso

Active Transport
  1. Allows cells to absorb substances across partially permeable membranes against the concentration gradient.
    1. Cells may need to absorb substances which are in short supply, e.g. against the concentration gradient.
      1. Requires the use of energy released in respiration
        1. Cells are able to absorb ions from dilute solutions
          1. E.g. root cells absorb mineral ions from the dilute solutions in the soil by active transport.
          2. Glucose can be reabsorbed in the kidney tubules by active transport.
