  1. THE 2011 AV REFERENDUM
    1. Second national referendum in the UK
      1. Drawn up in agreement between Conservative-Lib Dem coalition.
      2. The question was; should AV be adopted for elections to the Westminster parliament?
        1. There was a 42% turnout
          1. Low turnout partially due to the fact that it was held on the same day as many local elections.
            1. 68% no vote
        2. 1973 NORTHERN IRELAND REFERENDUM
          1. Voters had to decide whether they wished to remain as part of the UK or leave and become part of the Republic of Ireland.
            1. 98.9% voted to remain in the UK.
              1. But the Catholics boycotted the election so the result was meaningless
            2. 2016 EU REFERENDUM
              1. Voters were asked if they wished to remain in the EU or leave.
                1. 51.9% voted to leave the EU.
                  1. There has been a lot of controversy over the close result.
                  2. The turnout was 72.2%
                    1. Large turnout
                2. 1975 EEC REFERENDUM
                  1. Voters in the UK were asked whether we should remain in the EEC.
                    1. 64.5% turnout
                      1. 67.2% voted yes.
                  2. 1979 SCOTTISH ASSEMBLY REFERENDUM
                    1. Voters were asked if they wanted a Scottish Assembly to be set up.
                      1. 63.8% turnout.
                        1. 51.6% voted yes.
                          1. However, the low yes vote meant that the assembly was not set up.
