   • An inference engine
     • Acts rather like a search engine, examining the knowledge base for information that matches the user's query
   • user interface
     • Allows a non-expert user to question the expert system, and to receive advice.
   • Rules base
     • how the knowlege or data from a database connects together

2. Advantages

   • Expert advice available all the time
   • Expert systems are consistent
   • Less skilled workforce
   • Efficient way of getting answers as it does not involve additional help staff
   • No "Human Errors"

   • Medical diagnosis
   • Playing strategy games like chess against a computer
   • diagnose car engine problems
   • Providing financial advice

4. Disadvantages

   • Training staff is needed
   • There can be errors in the knowlegde base
   • Expert system lack of common sense
   • Is Expensive to setup
