1. PC/desktop computers

   • Advantages
     • 1. Spare parts and connections tend to be standardised, which usually results in lower cost
       • 2. The desktop tends to have a better specification for a given price
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. They are not particulary portable since they are made up of separate components
       • 2. They tend to be more complicated since all the components need to be carried round with you and then connected to the computer by wires or wireless connections

2. Laptop Computers

   • Advantages
     • 1. They can be taken anywhere because all their components are together in a single unit
       • 2. They can take full advantage of Wi-Fi
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. Since they are easily portable, they are also easier to steal
       • 2. They have limited battery life, so the user may need to carry a heavy adaptor
         • 3. The keybords are pointing devices can sometimes be awkward to use

3. Tablets

   • Advantages
     • 1. Very fast to switch on
       • 2. Fully portable
         • 3. Can use several Apps as standard
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. They often have limited memory or storage compared to a laptop
       • 2. They can be expensive to run if the internet is being accessed frequently via 3G/4G/5G mobile phone newtorks
         • 3. Typing on a touch screen can be slow and error-prone compared to a standard keyboard

4. Smartphones

   • Advantages
     • 1. They are very small in size and lightweight
       • 2. Can use them to make phone calls as well as connect to the internet while on the move
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. Web browsing and photography can drain the battery quickly
       • 2. Not all websites features are compatible with smartphone operating system

5. Smartwatches

   • Advantages
     • 1. The technology delivers notifications straight to the users wrist
       • 2. They are very easy to use for monitoring fitness and health regimes
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. Smartwatches are relatively large and bulky which can make them uncomfortable to wear
       • 2. They tend to be rather unattractive in design

6. Mainframe Computers

   • Advantages
     • 1. They can have several CPUs
       • 2. They have very fast processor speeds
         • 3. They can support multiple operanting systems
   • Disadvantages
     • 1. High skilled people are required for operate them.
       • 2. They have a really high cost
         • 3. They require a lot of space.
