1. Trojan horse

   • Payload imbedded into a legitimate-looking program

2. Virus

   • Embeds in a file
   • Replicates
   • Can replicate over network

3. Spyware

   • Stays in background
   • Steals usernames and passwords, often through a keylogger

4. Ransomware

   • Encrypts files to make them unusable
   • Asks for money to decrypt the files

5. Rootkits

   • These give other people permission to access your computer
   • Sometimes uses remote desktop

6. Scareware

   • Casues a popup to appear, scaring the user into thinking there is something wrong with thier computer

7. Worm

   • Often done by email
   • Uses up all the computer's resources to cause a crash

8. Browser malware

   • Adware
     • Makes your browser display unwanted ads
     • Could change your homepage
   • Pharming
     • Redirects your browser to a fake website
     • Can steal usernames and passwords
   • Click fraud
     • Clicks on random ads to earn money from the owner of the ad
     • Works in the background
