C2 topic 1: Atoms

1. Necleus

   • Middle of the atom
   • Contains protons and neutrons
   • Overall positive charge
   • Almost all the mass of the atom
   • Tiny compared to rest of the atom

2. Electrons

   • Move around nucleus
   • Negative charge
   • Tiny compared to nucleus
   • Size of orbit determine atom size.
   • Virtually now mass
   • Occupy shells

3. Protons and electrons

   • Charge on electrons are the same as protons but opposite.
   • Same amount of protons and electrons
   • Usually same amount of protons and nuetrons

4. What they're like?

   • Protons=heavy + positivley charged
   • Neutrons= Heavy+Neutral
   • Electrons=Tiny+Negativley charged
     • Mass of electron is around 1/2000
