4. BATTERIES / CELLS

   • Half Cells
     • Cells can also be set up by connecting two half cells together

     • Normal batteries go out of charge because the chemicals inside have been used up.
       • With rechargeable batteries the radox is reversable
     • Passing an electrical current through the battery forces the radox reaction into reverse
   • Fuel Cells
     • With a fuel cell chemicals constantly flow into the cell so it will never go flat
       • As long as the chemicals flow into the cell the electricity flows out of the cell
     • No Carbon Dioxide is produced so no pollution is created
     • Fuel cells need a source of hydrogen - obtained by electrolysis of water - and of oxygen - obtained from the air
