1. strong password

   • include numbers
   • don't use personal information
   • long enough ( min 8 characters)
   • include capitals
   • special characters

   • controls what data can pass though

4. physical protection

   • locks on doors
   • biometric finger prints
   • keys

5. lock on doors

   • physical protection
     • security guard
     • location of stored data- upstairs, away from entrance
   • card
     • RFID (radio frequency identification)
   • keypad

6. access rights and premission

   • copy
   • write (edit the data)
   • read (looking at data)

7. encryption

   • data is encrypted (scrambled)
   • if data has been stolen encryption prevents the data being used
   • encrypted data has no membership
   • only if you have a "key" can you decrypt the data

8. backup data

   • should be stored away from the original data
   • make a copy of the data
