1. Information

   • Is data + context
   • Computer
     • A device that stores and processes information according to a set of instructions.
       • Mainframe Computer
       • Palmtop Computer
       • Laptop Computer
       • Personal Computer (PC)

2. Data

   • Is simply any numbers, letters or symbols that can be entered into a computer system.

3. Peripheral Devices

   • Input Devices
     • Devices that pass data into the computer
       • A keyboard
       • A mouse
       • A webcam
   • Output Devices
     • Devices that take data from the computer
       • A monitor
       • A loudspeaker
       • A printer
   • Secondary/Backing Storage
     • Is the name for all of the devices (apart from ROM and RAM) that can store data in a computer system.
       • A hard drive
       • A floppy disc
       • A CD-ROM

4. Hardware

   • The physical parts of the computer system – the parts that you can touch and see.
     • Hardware and Software devices
       • Central Processing Unit (CPU)
       • VRandom Access Memory (RAM)
       • Read-Only Memory (ROM)
       • Main Memory

5. Software

   • A collection of instructions that can be ‘run’ on a computer. These instructions tell the computer what to do.

6. User Interface

   • The system that people use to interact with a computer (to give it commands, to see the results of those commands, etc.)
     • • Graphical User Interface (GUI)
     • • Command-Line Interface (CLI)
