Functions. Characteristics
Basic concepts
- X is the independent variable
- Y is the dependent variable
- The set of input values of x is called the domain of definition of the function f, and is expressed using the notation Dom f
- The set of output values of x is called the range of f. F(x)= y
Domain of definition
- 1. Equalize to zero
- Y= 1/ x-2
- X-2= 0
- X= 2
- Do you have a square root?
- No= The domain would be Dom R - {2}
- Yes= you have to do you have to make an axis with a value smaller than x and one bigger
- Then you have to replace the axis number with x in the formula
- If you can substitute the number on the right the domain would be Dom f ( - infinito, x)
- if you can substitute the number on the left the domain would be Dom f ( x, infinito)
- Then you have to replace the axis number with x in the formula
- 1. Equalize to zero
Continuous functions. Discontinuities
- A function is continuous when it has no discontinuities of any kind
- Why they are discontinuos?
- There is a jump at point a on the axis X
- Its branches tend to infinite at point a
- There is a point missing
Increase, decrease, maximums and minimums
Average rate of change (ARC)
Periodicity
