1. Combustion reaction

   • Is a reation of a substance with oxygen, usually acompanied by visible fire.
     • 3 conditions for this reactions to occur
       • Combustible substance
       • Enough oxygen
       • Right temperature
   • produces heat, exothermic can lead to:
     • Flames
     • Ash
       • Sparks

2. Combustion of elements

   • Most will react with oxygen
     • The reaction prouct which is formed is called an oxide

3. Combustion of a compound

   • When you burn a compound 2 or more can be formed

4. Incomplete combustion

   • Not enough oxygen

5. Reagents

   • Changes visibly in contact with the substance you want to identify
   • Should be:
     • Selective
     • Sensitive
