Group decision-making

  1. Participation process in which multiple people act collectively, analyze the problem or situation, consider and evaluate alternative action plans, and choose a solution from the alternatives.

    • The nature and composition, size, demographic structure and purpose of groups will affect their operations and some external emergencies to a certain extent.
      • There are many methods or procedures available for groups. Each one aims to improve the decision-making process in some way. Some of the more common methods of group decision-making are brainstorming, dialectical inquiry, nominal group techniques, and Delphi techniques.
    • Group decision-making should be distinguished from the concepts of team, teamwork and self-management team. The basis of the difference lies in the fact that the team acts more collectively and achieves greater synergy.
      • Some differences are:
        • The group has a clear leader, but the team has a common leadership role.
        • The members of the group have personal responsibilities; the team is both individual and collective.
        • The group indirectly measures effectiveness, but the team directly measures performance.
        • A group discusses, decides, and delegates, while a team discusses, decides, and does actual work.
