3. Where the work is created by an emploee in the course of employment, the copyright owner is the employer

4. Exists automatically

   • No need to register it or make a formal claim to it
     • But formal claim = good for later possible disputes

5. Provides protection for a whole piece of work and its parts

6. DOES NOT provide protection for ideas or principles

7. Computer programs are covered by copyright BUT ideas in programs are not
