Of Mice and Men: Key Messages

1. Steinbeck shows how difficult/harsh life was in 1930's America.

   • The Great Depression

2. Lots of people were lonely.

   • Many people were discriminated against (Crooks, Curley's Wife, Lennie...)

3. The strongest characters survive and the weak are vulnerable.

   • The weak are all dead, if not physically, they are mentally.

4. The characters all have "dreams" of a better life, but these will never come true.

   • They make these dreams because their lives are repetitive and bleak.
   • They have no hope.

5. These points can all be used to answer Part B of the questions!!!
