1. what is computer crime

   • it is an illegal act that has been committed using a computer
   • theft of money e.g. transfer of payments to the wrong account
     • theft of info: files or databases
       • theft of goods; by their diversion to the wrong destination
         • gaining unauthorisied access to a system
           • illegal copying of a piece of software

2. Malpractice

   • negligent or improper professional behaviour
     • act of breaking professional rules set by the employeer, intentionally of unintentionally causing harm to the business
   • e.g. careless worker leaves his work station logged on or tells password to others which could enable unauthorisied access to data
   • e.g. excessive use of a pc for personal use at work
     • shopping, social networking, surging the net, personal emails and inappropriate sites
       • punishment: WARNING, DOWN GRADING, EXPULSION

3. why is computer crime on the increase

   • the rapid spread of personal PCs
     • wide area networks
       • distributed processing
     • made info on pc more vunerable
   • automatic teller machines ATMs, internet and mobile allows new illegal opportunities
