During the Tang Dynasty, women had higher status, even so that empresses ruled the land for long periods of time. The Tang dynasty restored the Han system of uniform government, instituted land reform, and allowed peasants to pay taxes. Some of the contributions to the fall of this dynasty were drought, famine, corruption, higher taxes, and rebellions.
During the Song Dynasty, Chinese economy expanded because of improved farming methods and managed canals which led to a boost in internal trade. The Song controlled less territory than the Tang and also lasted longer than the Tang.
Though there were many differences between the two dynasties, there were also similarities. Both dynasties had two social classes; the gentry and the peasantry. Both were well ordered societites and supervised a huge bureaucracy. The Tang and the Song restored foreign trade and improved agriculture.
