Subject: Information Technology
Teacher: Mr. C Thompson
Form: 10
Topic: Spreadsheet
Date: Week of 19/01/09
Previous
Knowledge:
Students already know how to insert basic formula in a
spreadsheet.
General
Objectives:
Students should:
2. Understand
relative versus absolute cell addressing in spreadsheet.
Specific Objectives:
Students should be able to:
2.1 explain when to use relative vs absolute without
the aid of notes.
2.2 use relative cell addressing in creating formulae
without the help of the teacher.
Teaching Aids:
White board
Computer
Textbook – Microsoft Excel made
simple by George King (pg. 20)
Teaching Strategies:
Questioning – To generate feedback
Development:
Step 1
-
Teacher will explain to students what is meant by
relative cell addressing.
-
Students will look and take notes.
-
Students will do the exercise from their text book.
-
Teacher will help individual students with problems
they are experiencing.
KEYPOINTS:
Relative Referencing
When a formula is copied, reference to cells or ranges is usually
based on their position relative to the new cell that contains the formula.
Example – If the
formula = B3+C3 is copied down it becomes = B4+C4
Absolute References
Absolute referencing is the opposite of relative
referencing. Absolute referencing means
fixing a cell or making it unchangeable within formula. As a result, no matter where the formula is
copied, reference will always be made to the fixed cell. To fix a cell in a formula place the $ sign
before the cell address.
For example to
fix C5, we enter $C$5.
Step 2
-
Teacher will give students exercise to do on computer
containing relative vs absolute
-
Students will do example on computer and ask questions.
Evaluation:
Students will be given a test to do
in class.
Evaluation:
