CHARACTERISTICS

someone who is hacking for a political reason or because they want to change the views of a company or government.​

A hacktivist is a hacker who is not trying to get money.

They might want to highlight how a company or business is doing something they think is wrong.​

It is still illegal to be a hacktivist.

Cyber criminals are people who want to get your money or identity.​

If they steal your identity they can get loans in your name.

Disgruntled means unhappy.​

If a network manager is upset about not getting a pay rise, he could hack into the payment system and give himself or herself a huge final pay-out. Or they could hack the system to find out embarrassing information about the company.​

Asking for your personal details: Account number, Sort code, email​ Security questions: Date of birth, mothers maiden name,​

Phishing emails are usually generic, not aimed at you, sent to millions of people

If they aim it at one person, it becomes Spear-Phishing.

A scammer is good at convincing you to do something, like sending them some information or telling them your bank details.​

Once a Phisher has got you to send some information, the SCAMMER will then target you with loads of emails and phone calls.

A Scammer is very convincing.

E.G. bored youth/teenager

Sometimes children try to hack systems for fun, this is still illegal, even if they say they didn’t know it was illegal.

It would be breaking the computer misuse act (ICT Legislation / Law).​

Hacking as a business​

Companies pay for companies to find vulnerability or bugs in their software​.

Be careful, if you are trying to hack them without their knowledge then you are committing a crime.​
