How to shop online:

To shop online you need:

Computer

Internet access

A secure website

Personal details

A payment method

Before typing your card

details check the address bar for a small padlock symbol or the web address

beginning with https:// (the ‘s’ stands for secure).

Use familiar websites that

you know or ones that have been recommended by friends and family.

Do not click on websites you

are unsure of as there could be hackers or virus’ on it.

Only make an account if you

are going to buy off of the website often.

When you make a card

transaction online you should never be asked for your pin number or banking

password.

If you buy something online

that's worth more than £100, then it's best to use a credit card rather than a

debit card. This is because if you spend more than £100 on your credit card,

you have legal rights under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

You get similar protection -

from something called 'chargeback' - for purchases of under £100. This applies

whether you paid by debit or credit card.

Under ‘consumer contract

regulations', you may be entitled to a full refund for certain goods if you

decide - within 14 days of receiving your items - that you want to return them.

And, in some cases, you may be entitled to a refund from the seller if your

items don't arrive within a reasonable time period (usually 30 days).

To make a password secure use

a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Have 8-16

characters altogether so that it makes it slightly harder for people to guess

or hack.

Always log out of sites into

which you have logged in or registered details. Simply closing your browser is

not enough to ensure privacy.

Some websites will ask you to

verify what is in the box for extra security. This is to make sure you are not

a robot.

You do not want the computer

to remember your password. It can allow anyone to simply go on the computer and

access all information on that site. If you click ‘remember password’ you will

not have to re – enter your password when you decide to go on the website

again.
