Network

Network

Networks allow the transfer of data between connected devices

LAN and WAN

HUB

SWITCH

Wireless Access Point

LAN stands for local area network. It is confined to one site so it is relativly small

WAN is set up on one site, the hardware is owned by the organisation and it covers large area's unlike LAN

Advantages of LAN

Digital communication between people is enabled

Allows sharing of digital information

Allows sharing of peripheral devices

Allows system to be updated with the latest software from a central point

Disadvantages of LAN

Expertise are required to install and maintain large networks

Security issues

You required at least two nodes

Each having a NIC These transfer signals to the netowork

A device that connects nodes together

Makes all the connected nodes act as a single segment

Cheap devices like a USB hub

A device that connects nodes together

An intelligent device that can create and connect to different segments of the network

Directs Network Traffic

Wireless no need to do building

Add a new node to the system with ease

There are performance issues and security issues too
