- variation just means differences between organisms
- a human, cow, dandelion and a tree all look totaly different. thease differenes between species occur because there genes are totally different
- you also can see variation within species i.e. plants and animals which have basically the same genes will also show differences between them e.g. skin colour, height, flower size ect.

- continuous variation
- for exmple of these are things like height, wheight, skin colour, intelligence, leaf area ect. where the featuures can have any value at all
- discontinuous variation
- examples of these are things like eye colour or blood group where there are just a few distinct options, not a continuous range
