- 1What is Encryption used for?To protect data whilst it is being transferred between two computers via a network device, eg the internet.
- 2Why is Encryption nessecary?Because data that is being transferred over the internet can easily be intercepted by unauthorised computers.
- 3What does a Firewall do?Prevents unauthorised access to a computer or network from other computers.
- 4How does a Firewall work?It monitors all incoming and outgoing traffic to and from the computer / network. Any incoming / outgoing data that has not been requested by the computer is blocked.
- 5How does Anti-Virus software work?All files downloaded from a remote source are scanned to see if they contain match samples of known virus' that they have in the anti-virus program's library.
- 6What else does the Anti-Virus software monitor?It monitors any unusual activity on the computer. Eg, a program attempting to do an unusual thing like downloading a file from the internet.
