  1. 1Prepositions of time such as for, since and agoEspinosa Tapia Andrea
    Materia: Ingles IV
    Grado y grupo: 2°B
  2. 2What are prepositions of time? The prepositions of time in English are connectors that allow us to establish the moment in which an action is carried out or an event occurs.Subject + Verb + Preposition of time + Complement
  3. 3Example: She eats rice during the lunch (Ella come arroz durante el almuerzo)The words for, since, and ago indicate moments or periods of time, and are typically used with the simple past and present perfect.
  4. 4To summarize, the difference is that: the present perfect speaks many times of actions that have not been completed. They started in the past and continue now. Or, they are things that happened at an indeterminate moment in the past and could continue to happen now: the typical I've been to Italy several times. Have you ever been to Italy? The simple past, on the other hand, speaks of actions completed at a specific moment in the past.
  5. 5This is different from Spanish, which allows us to also use the present perfect with a past moment – at least if it is the recent past.FOR:
The preposition "for" is used to express the duration of an action, the period of an action or an event.
  6. 6Example: “I’ve lived here for 8 months”. He vivido aquí durante 8 meses. “We haven’t seen each other for a long time”. No nos hemos visto en un buen tiempo. “How long will you go there for?”. ¿Por cuánto tiempo vas a ir allí? (Informal. Mejor: “How long willAs you can see, "for" must be used for a time interval.
Likewise, "for" can be used with practically all verb tenses, especially continuous ones.
  7. 7SINCE: The preposition "since" is used to indicate a moment from which the action continues.Example:
“I haven’t seen them since 2012”. No los he visto desde el 2012.
“It has been raining since morning”. Ha estado lloviendo desde la mañana.
“You haven’t talked about that since Jake left”. No has hablado sobre eso desde que Jack se marchó.
  8. 8AGO: Ago is used WITH SIMPLE PAST after a period of time to talk about the time that has elapsed since then.Example:
    She arrived 5 minutes ago.
He was last here 3 days ago.
She called the taxi an hour ago.
