Question Answer
Gene A sequence of bases on a DNA molecule that codes for a protein which results in a characteristic
Allele A different version of a gene. Most plants/animals have two alleles of each gene. The order of bases in each allele is slightly different - code for different versions of the same characteristic
Genotype The alleles an organism has
Phenotype The characteristics the alleles produce. Physical expression
Dominant Characteristics appear in the phenotype even in there is only one copy. CAPITAL LETTER
Recessive Characteristics appear if two copies are present LITTLE LETTER
Locus Fixed position of a gene on a chromosome
Homozygote Carries two copies of the same allele - BB or bb
Heterozygote Carries two different alleles - Bb
