How are people infected by the flu? Through a virus in droplets of body fluids in the air & on surfaces. Someone is infected when these droplets are inhaled or transferred from hand to nose, mouth, or eye.
How are people infected by salmonella? Through a bacterium in food & water. People are infected when they ingest this food/water.
How are people infected by athlete's foot? Through a fungus found on surfaces. People are infected when the come into contact with these surfaces.
How are people infected by malaria? Through a protist carried by mosquitoes. People are infected when bitten & introduced to their saliva.
What is a sexually transmitted infection (STI)? diseases spread by unprotected sex or genital contact.
What STIs are caused by bacteria? Chlamydia & gonorrhoea
What STI is caused by viruses? Genital warts.
How is human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) spread? Through semen & blood.
What are the impacts of plant & animal diseases? They can damage ecosystems & for chains, & disrupt our supply of food.
What is Crown gall disease? A disease passed via bacteria that infects grapes, stone fruit & nut trees, & sugar beet. It is spread via soil, water, & farming tools.
What is ash dieback? A disease passed on via a fungus which infects ash trees. It is spread by spores carried by wind, & movement of contaminated plant material.
What is tobacco mosaic virus A disease spread via a virus that infects tobacco, tomato, bell pepper, cucumber, & some flowers. It is spread by direct contact & contaminated seeds.
