What are the symbols for Calcium Carbonate? CaCO3
What are 2 examples of limestone? chalk marble
Give 3 uses of limestone make buildings with it cement+sand=mortar glass
How was Limestone made? from sea creatures shells over millions of years ago, as the sea animals died they sank to the bottom of the ocean , as the layers of shells built up they became compressed into sedimentary rock
When limestone is heated (Thermally Decomposes) what does it form? calcium oxide and carbon dioxide
how is calcium hydroxide produced? when calcium oxide reacts with water
what is thermal decomposition? when one substance chemically changes into at least 2 new substances when its heated
other metal carbonates decompose in the same way. how does copper decompose? copper carbonate-->copper oxide+carbon dioxide
how do we test for carbon dioxide gas? bubbling it through limewater (which will form cloudy)
write out the limestone cycle look at notes for answer
how can you tell the difference between calcium oxide and calcium carbonate? add water to calcium oxide and it will produce calcium hydroxide
what is the calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid reaction? calcium carbonate+hydrochloric acid->carbon dioxide+water+calcium hydroxide
what are 4 advantages of quarrying limestone? 1. jobs 2. cheaper housing 3. more facilities 4. can be made as an area of interest when the quarry is finished
