Question Answer
Atom Smallest element part that can exist. No electrical charge and made up of neutrons, protons and electrons.
Proton Positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom.
Neutron Particle with no charge in the nucleus of an atom.
Electron Negatively charged particle which orbits the nucleus of an atom, also known as energy levels (shells).
Energy Level (Shell) The area around a nucleus that an electron orbits.
Atomic Number Number of protons in an atom.
Mass Number Number of protons plus the number of neutrons in an atom.
Isotopes Atoms with the same number of protons but a different amount of neutrons.
Relative Atomic Mass The average mass of atoms on an element, depending on mass and amount each isotope contains.
Ion An electrically charged particle, different number of protons to electrons.
Element A substance which contains only one type of atom, cannot be further simplified by chemical methods.
Compound Substance made by different types of elements chemically bonded together.
Noble Gases Elements in Group 0 of the periodic table.
Alkali metals Elements in Group 1 of the periodic table.
Halogens Elements in Group 7 of the periodic table.
Diatomic molecule A molecule containing two atoms.
Halides Compounds made from group 7 elements.
Catalyst Substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but is not used up.
Mixture More than one substance that are not chemically bonded together.
Filtrate Liquid that comes through the filter paper during filtration.
Residue Solid left on the filter paper during filtration.
Saturated A solution where no more of a substance can be dissolved, at current temperature.
Miscible Liquids that mix together.
Immiscible Liquids that no not mix together (Separate into layers instead).
Separating funnel Glass container with a tap used to separate immiscible liquids.
