What does the term "internalising disorders” refer to? The term “internalising disorders” refers to conditions whose central feature is disordered mood or emotion
There are a range of different things that you may see with depression, feeling sad alot more, low self worth, hopelessness. Difficuties with cognition, concenratin at school. Motivation problems, eating less/more, sleeping more/less. There can be different causes for the same symptoms. Important to tease apart what the driving factors behind the symptoms.
What is the main symptom/factor of diagnosing depression? A change in symptoms.
• Why do children get depressed?? Heredity/Genetics/Neurotransmitters • World view • Academic and Social difficulties • Coping/Emotion Regulation Skills • Exposure to life stressors
Heredity/Genetics/Neurotransmitters Hereditary or biological predisposition/risk. heightens their risk of becoming depressed in certain situations. Genes that code for seratonin noradrenaline norapenepherine.
How can your world view put a risk for depression? Often people with depression with have a negative cognitive bias. A tendency to view things negatively. Neutral/positive events will be interpreting negatively.
How can academic or social difficulties lead to depression? If you have trouble with learning you may start to feel bad about yourself
How can Coping/Emotion Regulation Skills lead to depression? two different ways. someone may have good emotional/coping skills (protective factor) but don't know how to regulate their emotions = risk factor for depression
How can Exposure to life stresses lead to depression? Stressful situations affect the way that we feel.
• How do we treat depression in children? • Parent psychoeducation • Cognitive behaviour therapy • Academic help • Medication
How can Parent psychoeducation help decrease depression symptoms? Educating parents with what they can do to help child.
How can cognitive behaviour therapy help treat child depression? Working with the world view, negative bias. Helping child get an alt view of the world. Children find it hard to understand emotions, so therapists may use pictures to help explain these emotions and their consequences to them.
How can academic help, help treat child depression? If a child's depression is to do with their academic ability. Once a child receives academic help they will get better grades and depression levels will therefore decrease.
How can medication help treat child depression? Biological aspect helps depression, selective serotonym reuptake inhibitors or mono amming oxy... inhibitors can be used to help.
WHat is separation anxiety? The fear that when you are separate from someone, they worry about what might happen to that person. Worsens over time if child does't separate from person.
What is Selective mutism? When you don't talk to anyone, except your family when at home as in public you worry about other people hearing what you say. Fear and anxiety that the individual will be judged negatively if talk in public. Scared. shy or anxious that people could judge in a negative way.
When does anxiety become a problem? When you have too much of it and it has an impact on your life.
What causes anxiety? Heredity/Genes/Neurotransmitters • Temperament • Modelling • Life experiences
How does modelling cause anxiety? Modelling parents may model anxiety in-front of their child. Parent may praise the child to say that anxiety is somewhat ok.
How do past experiences cause anxiety? Bad past experiences g.g with a bumble bee, we will learn from that and become anxious once again when we see the bumble bee. People will start avoiding the things that provoke the anxiety and because of thins will not get the opportunity to overcome the anxiety.
How to treat anxiety with Parent psychoeducation therapy? Gradually exposing the stimulus to the anxious child. E.g. Show bumble bees in videos pictures etc then later real life bumble bees.
How does Parent psychoeducation treat anxiety? Educating parent with how to deal with their cihldrens anxiety.
How does Cognitive Behaviour Therapy treat anxiety? Coming up with a more realistic estimation of how much danger is present with the thing they are anxious about.
Gender & Childhood Disorders What problems do we see more of with males? males that have troubles with regulating their emotions we see it as a external disorder e.g. OCC or CD.
Gender & Childhood Disorders What problems do we see more of with females? Emotions are expressed more with internalising disorders, depression and anxiety.

What are the essential features of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)? Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Restricted, repetitive patterns of behvaiour, interests or activities.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is inborn something the child is born with. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can have mild or impaired versions of ASD.
What are some problems with Social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Problems with social and emotional interaction include problems with social and emotional reciprocity. Meaning that people have problems with understanding people emotions and expressing emotions in an appropriate way. Emotions won't fit the situation, out of context emotions.
What are some problems within non-verbal communication used in social interactions? Understanding someones body language. Or being too far into someones personal space. Creates problems with being in relationships.
