Question Answer
S - specific - Goals should be focused on certain things needed for the sport - Reducing the speed to cover the last 200m of an 800m race by 2 seconds.
M - measurable - should be able to determine how well you have preformed. - To see if your goal has been met. - Measures taken before and during training program to see the goal has been met.
A -achievable - With the performers potential to reach their goal and stay motivated. - Based of there own individual targets.
R - realistic - Target should be relevant to the athlete's circumstances to ensure they can reach it. - Based of there previous progress and ability.
T -time bound - Target should have date that the goal should be achieved by as it gives them a time phrase to work for. - Time frame is agreed upon in which they should reach there goal.
Use of goal setting. - Increase motivation. - Improve skills. - Improve performance. - Increase commitment to training. - Improve effort levels.
Setting and reviewing goals - Goals should be regularly reviewed - Opportunity to check progress. - Once goal has been met you can set a new more challenging goal. - Adjusted goal if it can't be met, and see why is wasn't for future training.
Examples of goals - Increasing serve accuracy. - Achieving a personal best. -Improving a skill. - Winning a match. - Winning a gold medal. - Selection for a squad.
