Flashcards

Integration

James Norman OCR A level Maths A level English 6 cards

Cards in this deck (6)

  1. 1Fundamental Theorem of Calculus\[\int{f'(x)}\,\mathrm{d}x = f(x)\]
Integration is the reverse of differentiation
  2. 2What is integration used for?Finding the area between a curve and the specified axis
  3. 3Integration formula\[\int{ax^n}\,\mathrm{d}x = \frac{ax^{n + 1}}{n + 1} + c\]
  4. 4Definite integration\[\int_b^a{f(x)}\,\mathrm{d}x = \int{f(a)}\,\mathrm{d}x - \int{f(b)}\,\mathrm{d}x\]
\(c\) (the constant of integration) cancels out
  5. 5Negative areasIf a graph goes below the axis at any point, split the integral into positive and negative parts and take the modulus of the negative areas
  6. 6Finding the area between two curves \(f(x)\) and \(g(x)\) where \(f(x) > g(x)\)Find intersections \(a\) and \(b\) where \(a > b\)
    Check for negative areas
    \[A = \int_b^a{f(x) - g(x)}\,\mathrm{d}x\]
