Irrigation The artificial watering of land
Isolated Far away from others, remote
Latitude Position north or south of the equator, measured in degrees
Migrate To leave a place to live in another place
Oasis A fertile area in a desert where water is found
Prevailing wind A wind from the direction that is most usual at a particular place or during a particular season
Semi-arid climate Region that receives very little rainfall and struggles to support vegetation, often found on the fringes of deserts
Sustainable Capable of being continued with minimal long-term effects on people and the environment
Taiga The swampy coniferous forest found in boreal climates
Trap roots Roots that grow vertically downwards to reach water
Water table The level below which the ground is saturated with water
