Question Answer
2.3 - Specialised Cells! Fatima Syeda 8A
What are multi-cellular organisms? Multi-cellular organisms are made up of many cells and they work together each with their own unique function.
What are the different muscles in your body?
How many cells are in the human body? There are approximately 50 trillion cells with 200 different types.
Why do voluntary and involuntary muscles contain a large amount of mitochondria? This is because these muscles require a lot of energy to keep working and it is the mitochondria that provides them the energy.
What does your diaphragm control? Your diaphragm controls your breathing, it is an involuntary muscle.
What muscle is this? Involuntary or smooth muscle.
Why do cardiac muscles never get tired? They have a very large number of mitochondria to provide a continuous supply of energy.
What are nerve cells? Nerve cells make up your brain and carry information from your brain to other parts of your body.
Define axons. Axons are long fibres that allow the cell to carry messages over long distances.
What are red blood cells? Red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs around your body to the cells, where it is used to release the energy you need. They also carry some of the waste carbon dioxide from the cells back to your lungs so that you can get rid of it from your body.
What is the function of the white blood cell? The white blood cell is part of the immune system and helps fight infections.
Explain the function of the two fat cells. Brown cells - produce heat for your body White fat cells - used to store energy
What is the function of root hairs? Root hairs increase the area of the root for water uptake.
What is the function of guard cells? Guard cells work in pairs to open and close very tiny pores.
