Verb The verb refers to the action in the sentence.
Object Whoever or whatever receives the action
Subject + Verb + Object Subject: Mary Verb: likes Object: books, movies, and music.
Complement The complement is what is being said about the subject. Verb + Object: rides a bicycle to work.

SUMMARIZING A complete sentence expresses a complete thought. Every complete sentence has a subject and a complement. The subject is what or who the sentence is about. The complement is what the subject is being said about the subject. A complement always has a verb.
