Question Answer
Reactants In a chemical reaction, the reactants must be present to start the reaction (what is NEEDED on the left side of the equation).
Products During a chemical reaction, the reactants are changed into the products (what is PRODUCED).
Cellular Respiration Process in which all living things break down carbohydrates and create energy called ATP.
ATP Energy that is produced during respiration using the energy found in carbohydrates; useable form of energy.
Mitochondria The organelle where cellular respiration takes places; powerhouse of the cell.
Anaerobic Respiration that happens in the ABSENCE of oxygen; produces less ATP.
Photosynthesis Process in which plants convert sunlight into food (carbohydrates) for the plants.
Chloroplast Organelle that absorbs sunlight and then uses the light energy to perform photosynthesis.
Aerobic Respiration A process in cells where ATP is produced in the PRESENCE of oxygen.
Stomata Small opening on the underside of most leaves through which oxygen and carbon dioxide can move.
Autotroph An organism that makes its own food.
Heterotroph An organism that cannot makes its own food.
Glucose sugar, made during photosynthesis, main source of energy for plants and animals; C6H12O6
