Question Answer
Embryonic Tissue - 2 Stem cell types: embryonic (produces OTHER cells) adult (produces NEW cells) - Large nucleus & extension of cytoplasm
Epithelial Tissue - Lines surfaces of the body - squamous columnar ciliated columnar cuboidal stratified
Squamous Epithelium (structure & location) - Flat cells - No intercellular spaces/substances - 1 flat nucleus - mouth interior alveoli walls
Squamous Epithelium (functions) - Thin cells = diffusion - Smoothens internal surfaces - reduces friction
Cuboidal Epithelium (structure & location) - cubic/rounded cells - no intercellular spaces - 1 nucelus - glands excretory structures (thyroid gland)
Columnar Epithelium (structure & location) - elongated cells - oval nucleus - Goblet cells (mucous) - Mucous membrane of digestive tract/ urethra & sperm duct
Ciliated Columnar Epithelium (functions) - all cells can have - Expels mucous containing unwanted particles - Moves egg cell down Fallopian tubes
Layered Epithelium (location) - Surface of skin
Layered Epithelium (structure) - Several shapes & sizes - Layers - Cells formed in their deeper layer, then pushed upwards - Flat/hard with maturity - Contain KERATIN
